Severe Weather
In The Event of Severe Weather
Hadrian Academy will aim to stay open throughout the Winter, if at all possible, during severe weather such as deep/drifting snow or icy conditions. We understand that you have commitments too. However, should we experience such severe conditions that force us to close, we shall make the decision as early as possible and will communicate with you in the following ways:-
- The school website home page will be updated with closure details
- A Parentmail PMX / text will be sent to your mobile phone notifying you of the school closure. It is therefore important that you make sure the school office has your most up to date details on file. This is our quickest and best way of getting messages to you, so please look out for them during severe weather and make these your first port of call for information.
- You can register on the Central Bedfordshire ‘State of Schools’ portal. Please follow this link.
- Listen to Heart Radio, Four Counties 96 -107 fm or use their website.
Parents have the responsibility of getting children/pupils to and from school safely and need to decide if the journey is safe when severe weather affects transport and/or walking conditions. Parents should inform schools if their child is absent due to severe conditions making the journey unsafe. If conditions worsen within the school day and we feel for safety reasons that the school should close, parents will be informed by text and messages will be recorded displayed on the school website.
If parents feel it is absolutely necessary to collect children, the school should if possible be contacted prior to collection. Please avoid collecting children before the end of the day unless you feel their safety is at risk.
We would ask that in cold/wet/windy weather, and when there is snow and ice, that your child is warmly clothed and that shoes and boots have a good grip for icy conditions. During snowy weather, if it is safe to do so, the children may be allowed out at break and lunch times to make snowmen. They will however, need to bring to school wellingtons or snow boots. Children wearing shoes will have to stay in class for indoor play. It would also be advisable for them to bring an extra set of gloves change of trousers or their PE joggers, a spare pair of socks/tights. Children will need their indoor shoes for use throughout the day.
